On March 5, 1770, a fight between British soldiers and colonial residents broke out near the Custom House in Boston. Five colonial residents were shot and killed by British soldiers. Bostonians called this bloodshed the Boston Massacre.
At the time, Sam Adams and the Sons of Liberty used it as propaganda against the British.
Three weeks after the Boston Massacre, a grand jury had indicted Captain Preston and his men, as well as four civilians accused of having fired from the window of the Custom House. If found guilty, they would be hung.
Preston and his soldiers could not find a legal representative counsel. They approached several lawyers without success until 35-year-old John Adams agreed to head their defense.
This was extremely unpopular in Boston at the time, and he received threats against himself and his family.
His rationale in defending the redcoats was that 1.) everyone had a right to a defense lawyer, and 2.) a mob represents a highly dangerous situation, and the targets of their anger are acting rationally if they act to defend themselves.
Incidentally, Adams also said, “Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide.”
Suicide is Painless
Recently, on the streets of Charlottesville, the neo-Nazis and various scum were getting lots of press coverage as they battled the Antifa, BLM, and other self-appointed vigilante, internet anarchists that showed up to battle it out in righteous indignation.
How good they must think themselves.
Of course, they did nothing but empower the Nazis. The correct tactic is to give them no coverage, don’t show up. Mock them as the sad, small people they are. That’s been working for the past 30 years.
But, of course, that doesn’t garner page clicks and give coverage to pontificating speeches by blowhard politicians.
The Democratic mayor of Charlottesville, Michael Signer, set his trap. He ordered the police to not only do nothing but also, with help from the governor, force the two groups together.
CNN reports:
Critics say both Charlottesville Police and Virginia State Police stood on the sidelines Saturday as skirmishes erupted between white nationalists and members of Antifa, a broad movement of left-leaning groups. The two groups confronted each other in Emancipation Park with shields and pepper spray.
Townhall.com wrote:
One woman was hurled to the pavement, and the blood from her bruised head was instantly visible.
Standing nearby, an assortment of Virginia State Police troopers and Charlottesville police wearing protective gear watched silently from behind an array of metal barricades — and did nothing.
The Democratic governor went into CYA mode, saying the police were outgunned and they found caches of arms throughout town. The police refuted both claims.
Free Beacon reports: “Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D.) was contradicted by the Virginia State Police again on Wednesday after he claimed weapons were hidden around Charlottesville during a white supremacist rally turned riot.”
It is clear the Democrats wanted a riot with which to empower the Nazis and use it as a club to beat Trump and the right.
The popular media also likes riots and Nazis.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that MSNBC topped the ratings in terms of total viewers for the day, with 1.52 million viewers on August 16. That’s one-tenth the viewership of a bad football game, but still…
I never watch MSNBC, but I turned it on that day to see just how over the top they were going to be. I wasn’t disappointed. Talking heads and pundits were crying and shaking with rage and hyperbole.
Granted, it didn’t help that Trump played to the crowd and egged them on, knowing they’d overreact. It is what he does.
That said, it doesn’t really matter what he did. He would still be called a Nazi, just like McCain, Romney, Bush, Bush, Reagan, Nixon, LBJ, and I’m not sure about Ike, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

The Evil Oligarchs
You know, I expect neo-Nazis, Antifa, politicians, and the mass media to do what they are doing. I don’t like it, but it’s not really a surprise.
But here’s the deal: Neo-Nazis and Antifa didn’t destroy the middle class. They didn’t go into a pointless war in Iraq. They didn’t jack up drug prices or college tuition. They didn’t use liar loans and SDLs. They didn’t force customers into credit cards they didn’t know about or car insurance without telling them like Wells Fargo.
They didn’t manipulate LIBOR or gold markets. They didn’t have to pay $5.6 billion like the top six banks for manipulating foreign exchange markets. They didn’t buy off the Clintons with $250,000 speeches.
Violent cosplayers playing dress-up didn’t poison your water or create a dead zone in your fishing grounds. They didn’t add $10 trillion to your children’s debt load.
Condemning neo-Nazis is easy and takes no real courage. Oligarchs and their minions have used the opportunity to stand on their moral high ground. CEOs from Intel, Apple, Amazon, and a host of others have pontificated on their hatred of Nazis… as if everyone didn’t hate Nazis.
CNBC had the unmitigated gall to write this headline:
“Under Trump, business leaders have become the country’s moral compass…”
I’m sure Travis Kalanick, CEO of Uber sex scandals, and John Stumpf, former boss of Wells Fargo scams, are all warm inside about that.
Descent into Chaos
So, to sum up, the winners are the Democratic Party, the mainstream media, the anarchists, the racists, the oligarchs, and the mob. It wouldn’t surprise me if Trump came out better off in a week or two as well.
The losers are the police, freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, government institutions, trust in society, and the general feeling of unity with fellow Americans. Add to that economic stability and the full faith and credit of the U.S. dollar.
It is no wonder gold is hitting six-month highs, Bitcoin cleared $4,000, and the volatility index jumped 30%.
And it’s not over.
James Fields, the accused murderer who ran over the group of counter-protesters, could get off.
The video clips I’ve seen that aren’t on CNN, etc., show his car being attacked by baseball bats before he stepped on the gas. A good lawyer showing video clips of Reginald Denny and quoting John Adams to the right jury might get him acquitted.
